PoliceComplaint.com is an independent information
resource. We are not a police force, the IOPC, the Home Office, any US police
department or attorney general, the US Department of Justice, or any other government or
oversight body, and we are not endorsed by or acting for any of them. Contacting us is
not contacting the police or a regulator, and nothing on this site is legal advice.
Our commercial interest. This site is published by
Copious Ltd, which also operates a claims referral service. We state that on every page
rather than in the small print, because anyone reading our figures should be able to
weigh it. The methodology, the limitations and the source files are all published so the
work can be checked independently. How we compile the data.
About the figures
Every statistic here is compiled from datasets published by third parties, named on
each page together with the period it covers. Publishers revise and restate their
figures; recording practice differs between forces and agencies; and where a field is
frequently left blank we calculate over the records that were completed and say so, which
means the denominator is smaller than the total. Rates, ratios and rankings are our
arithmetic applied to their counts. To the fullest extent permitted by law we accept no
liability for any error, omission or subsequent revision in that data, or for any loss
arising from reliance on it. Nothing here excludes any liability that cannot lawfully be
excluded, and if you are a consumer your statutory rights are unaffected.
These figures describe recorded events in aggregate and are not findings of fact. A
recorded complaint is an allegation, not a finding. A measured disparity is a difference
in outcomes, not proof that anyone acted unlawfully. Nothing published here is intended
as an allegation against any named individual. If you believe something is inaccurate or
unfairly presented, tell us and we will
check it against the source and correct it where the point is made out.
