Search help:

You may only search ONE field at any time. More search capability will be added later as the database grows. This 'single field search' that we now use gives very broad search capability and is very powerful as a result. So to search for an incident only use one field at a time or you will have problems getting correct results. Clear all data in all other fields to start the next search in a new field.

Examples:

If you are looking for information on Officer John Smith you would likely start by searching for the last name "smith".

You could also search for all first names of John. To do this you would delete what you entered in the last name field and you could search for the first name "john" by typing John into the first name field and then submitting your search.

Or, you could clear all fields again and then search for any incident in the city of San Jose. San Jose would be found by entering any combination of letters in the words "San Jose" such as "san" or "jose" into the city search field and hitting submit.

Searching for the letter "J" in the first name field would bring back all first names containing the letter "J". This works the same in all fields.

Searching for the letters "oh" in the first name field would bring back any names containing "oh" such as John. This works the same in all fields.

Until the database grows more it may be easier to simply search for all incidents in a certain state, using the 'state' drop-down box.

The database is not case sensitive. Lower case and upper case work the same.
